Volunteer
Please consider donating your time and
energy to Sense of Security. We ask all volunteers to understand
the organization's history,
purpose and core values so they can act in the manner
that best defines who we are and what matters to the organization
and community it serves.
If you would like to volunteer, please
read the information below about the volunteer program and
available volunteer opportunities. Then fill out the Volunteer
Application and send it to us. Thanks for choosing to join
our team!
Volunteer
Application
Volunteers will be asked to:
* Commit to the mission of Sense
of Security
* Fulfill all commitments; be present at required meetings
and accomplish all the tasks for which you volunteered.
* Follow the lead of your committee chair; assist him/her
to the best of your ability and meet all his/her personal
expectations for success
* Volunteer in an area where you can provide your particular
expertise and enthusiasm.
* Adhere to organization policies regarding volunteer participation
* Assist and rely on Sense of Security staff when necessary
* Respect your volunteer colleagues
* Perform your tasks in an ethical manner to help us uphold
the public trust in our organization
Volunteer Opportunities:
Office assistance
Time required per month: determined by volunteer
Perform general administrative
duties at a home office during normal business hours M-F,
8am-5pm. Volunteers performing this type of work will be asked
to sign a confidentiality agreement due to the sensitive nature
of the work. We are looking for organized, self-directed,
committed individuals to assist with tasks such as: communication
with applicants, funders, volunteers, and the general public;
preparation of mailings, maintenance of records and files,
Internet research, coordination of events and other activities
as needed, and general duties.
Special
event planning, implementation, and leadership
Time required per month: 5 hours and up to 10 hours as
event nears
Serve as a leader or worker-bee
on several fundraising events. We always need hard-working
people to help on all of our events to serve long-term on
the planning committee and sub-committees, work on the day
of the event, and to assist in related funding efforts.

Spanish
translation services
Time required per month: as-needed, 1-2 hours
Help on an as-needed basis to
translate materials into Spanish, to read and translate applications
from Spanish-speaking applicants, interact with Spanish speaking
applicants, volunteer at events to provide translation services
Outreach
appearances and presentations
Time required per month: as needed, 2 hours
Attend health fairs and community
meetings to offer information and answer questions about Sense
of Security. Make a Sense of Security presentation to a health
care or community group including the details of the program
application process
Fundraising
with individuals and corporations
Time required per month: as needed, 2 hours
Connect us to people and companies
in the community who will find Sense of Security an attractive
organization to partner with to fulfill the mission. Help
set up meetings, introduce us to key people, and make that
all-important ask for funding dollars!
Liaison
role/assist applicants with the application process
Time required per month: as needed, 2 hours
Occasionally an applicant will
want assistance to complete his/her application; serve on
an as-needed basis to help a breast cancer patient in his/her
home to meet all application requirements. Requires a solid
understanding of the application materials and process that
will be provided through training.
Train and recruit other
volunteers
Time required per month: as needed, 3 hours
Once you've nailed down
your job, help us broaden our base of support; recruit friends
and family to join you to start a new event or to increase
your current efforts. If you know you cannot commit to another
term, help us by finding your replacement ahead of time.
