Staff Bios

Rita McCoy (full time) joined Sense of Security as Executive Director in June 2009.  She brings management, community relations, public relations, marketing, and fundraising experience.  As a community leader, she has worked closely with nonprofits since 1985 and gained knowledge of the nonprofit sector while working as the Director of Community Relations and Executive Producer at television station KTVD-TV for 10 years and working for NBC and CBS (Denver stations). Rita is a founding visionary for the National Center for Community Collaboration and served on numerous boards: Women’s Foundation of Colorado, Center for Work Education and Employment (CWEE), Colorado Nonprofit Association, National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Colorado Women’s Agenda and many others. She helped promote several hundred nonprofit organizations’ issues and causes to garner community support. Rita holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in communications.

Edith Chavez (part-time) is Sense of Security’s Program Manager; she is responsible for all direct client services.   Edith worked at Denver Health for eight years in a variety of positions working with low-income families as a nutrition counselor at WIC and as an enrollment specialist at Community Voices.  Edith gained a high level of knowledge about health coverage for low income families such as CICP, Medicaid and CHS, all of which many of our grantees receive.  The counseling experience at WIC provided Edith with the necessary skills she needs to work with people who are experiencing acute distress in their lives. Edith holds a bachelor's degree of science in business management.

Liz Miller (part-time) is Sense of Security's Events Manager; she is responsible for planning, organizing, tracking and evaluating special event logistics. She coordinates direct appeal mailings and assists with our donor database. She brings a diverse background in corporate marketing and communications. Liz began working for Sense of Security as an intern for Champagne & Diamonds in October 2009, and was then on the Champagne & Diamonds 2010 Committee before joining the staff in August 2010. Liz holds a bachelor's degree in communication along with certificates in leadership studies and business writing.
